Jumo ("we," "our," or "us") values your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal and health data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and disclose your data when you use our AI-powered nutrition tracking app ("App" or "Platform").


1. Data We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account using Google Sign-In or Apple Sign-In, we collect:

  • Your name and email address from your chosen authentication provider
  • A unique user identifier for your account

1.2 Nutrition and Meal Data

We collect information you provide about your food intake and nutrition habits:

  • Food Photos: Images you upload for nutritional analysis (converted and processed by our AI)
  • Meal Logs: Foods consumed, portion sizes, meal times, and optional notes
  • Barcode Scans: Product barcodes you scan for nutritional information
  • Text Descriptions: Food descriptions you provide for analysis
  • Nutrition Goals: Daily calorie and macronutrient targets based on your activity level

1.3 Health Data from Apple Health (iOS Only, With Your Permission)

If you enable Apple Health integration, we may read and write:

  • Read Access: Sleep patterns, body weight, step count, active energy burned, and dietary nutrients
  • Write Access: Dietary energy consumed, protein, carbohydrates, and total fat

1.4 AI Chat Conversations

We store your conversations with Jumo, our AI nutritionist, which may include:

  • Questions about nutrition, health, and dietary advice
  • Personal health information you choose to share in conversations
  • Meal history and nutrition goal discussions

1.5 Location Data (For Restaurant Recommendations Only)

When you request restaurant recommendations, we may collect approximate location information to provide relevant suggestions. We do not track your location continuously.

1.6 Usage and Analytics Data

We collect information about how you interact with the App:

  • App feature usage and navigation patterns
  • Device information (operating system, app version)
  • Error logs and performance data
  • Analytics events (e.g., buttons pressed, features used)

We do not collect precise device identifiers without your consent.


2. How We Use Your Data

We use your data to:

  1. Provide Core Services:

    • Analyze food photos and text descriptions using AI to estimate nutritional content
    • Provide personalized nutrition advice through our AI nutritionist chat
    • Track your meals and calculate nutrition progress toward your goals
    • Sync nutrition data with Apple Health (if enabled)
    • Generate personalized meal plans and restaurant recommendations
  2. Improve the App:

    • Analyze usage patterns to enhance features and user experience
    • Debug errors and improve app performance
    • Develop new features based on aggregated usage data
  3. Communicate With You:

    • Send important updates about the App
    • Respond to your support requests and inquiries
  4. Ensure Security and Compliance:

    • Prevent fraud and abuse
    • Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your data for advertising purposes.


3. Third-Party Services and Data Sharing

3.1 Service Providers We Use

To provide our services, we share data with trusted third-party providers:

  • Supabase (Authentication & Database): Stores your account information and app data
  • OpenAI (AI Services): Processes food photos and chat conversations to provide nutrition analysis and advice
  • Apple Health (iOS Only): Syncs health and nutrition data (only if you grant permission)
  • PostHog (Analytics): Collects anonymized usage analytics to improve the App
  • OpenFoodFacts & USDA FoodData Central: Food database lookups (your searches are not shared)
  • Google Places (Location Services): Geocoding for restaurant recommendations

These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and may only use it to provide services to Jumo.

3.2 We Do NOT Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal or health data to third parties for their marketing purposes.

3.3 Other Disclosures

We may disclose your data in these limited circumstances:

  • With Your Consent: When you explicitly authorize data sharing
  • Legal Requirements: To comply with legal obligations, court orders, or government requests
  • Safety and Protection: To protect the rights, property, or safety of Jumo, our users, or others
  • Business Transfers: If Jumo is acquired or merged, your data may transfer to the new entity

4. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

  • Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Secure authentication via trusted providers (Google, Apple)
  • Access controls and monitoring
  • Regular security audits

However, no system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of data transmitted over the internet.


5. Your Privacy Rights

You have the following rights:

5.1 Access and Update

View and edit your profile information and meal data within the App.

5.2 Delete Your Data

Request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at contact@heyjumo.com. Note:

  • Some data may be retained for legal or operational requirements
  • Anonymized or aggregated data may be retained for analytics

5.3 Control Apple Health Sync

Enable or disable Apple Health integration at any time in the App's settings. You can also manage permissions in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Health > Jumo.

5.4 Opt Out of Analytics

While we do not currently offer an in-app opt-out for analytics, you may limit tracking through your device settings.

5.5 Data Portability

Request a copy of your data in a portable format by contacting us.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data as follows:

  • Account Data: Until you delete your account or request deletion
  • Meal Logs & Chat History: Until you delete your account
  • Analytics Data: Up to 24 months in anonymized/aggregated form
  • Backups: May be retained for up to 90 days after deletion for recovery purposes

7. Children's Privacy

Jumo is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we have collected data from a child under 13, contact us immediately.


8. International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your residence, including the United States. These countries may have different data protection laws. By using Jumo, you consent to such transfers.


9. California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right to know what personal information is collected
  • Right to delete personal information
  • Right to opt-out of the sale of personal information (note: we do not sell your data)

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Material changes will be notified via:

  • A prominent notice in the App
  • Email notification to registered users

The "Last Updated" date at the top reflects the most recent changes. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
